“...there is only one subject: what it feels like to be alive. Nothing is irrelevant. Nothing is typical.” - Richard Rodriguez
To be alive and in the world as it is: what a privilege. To testify to your unique and individual experience moving through that world, and in the words that are unavoidably yours and no one else’s? That is artistry.
The writers here are unquestionably artists of the word. They witness: to love, to grief, to laughter, and, in many cases, to an experience of the divine. And they do this witnessing in many different forms–poems, essays, memoirs, novels, and even jokes.
But the writers and their books at this press all honor in the particularity of their visions the one subject: what it feels like to be alive.
